Season structure

Each Premier League club plays the other 19 clubs twice — once at home and once away — for a total of 38 matchdays. The opening matchday usually falls on the second weekend of August; the season closes with all 10 final-day matches kicking off simultaneously in late May.

Matchdays are typically split across Saturday lunchtime, Saturday afternoon (multiple kickoffs), Saturday evening, Sunday and Monday night for TV coverage. For European participants the schedule compresses further — expect Tuesday/Wednesday Champions League and a Sunday lunchtime league fixture immediately after.

Big Six fixtures and their resale impact

The Big Six (Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham) play each other twice across the season — that is 30 marquee fixtures with the highest resale demand. The Manchester derby, North London derby, Merseyside derby and Liverpool–Chelsea / Arsenal–Chelsea rivalries are the headline draws.

Plan resale purchases at least 6 weeks before kickoff. Prices typically rise 30-50% in the final fortnight, with knockout-style price spikes on derby week and any title-deciding fixture in April / May.

Ticket allocations explained

Most Premier League clubs sell to season-ticket holders first, then members, then a tiny public on-sale. Big-match allocations sell out in minutes; the regulated resale market (Tixticks) closes the gap for international and casual fans who do not have club membership.

Each Tixticks listing notes the section, view restrictions (if any), and delivery format (Mobile Transfer or PDF). Bring photo ID matching the lead attendee — clubs spot-check at home-fan turnstiles for high-demand fixtures.

Travel notes for international buyers

London (Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Fulham) is the densest cluster — easy to combine 2-3 fixtures over a weekend. Manchester is the next most accessible (United at Old Trafford, City at the Etihad). Liverpool, Newcastle and Brighton add strong away-day options.

Stadiums are typically a 15-30 minute walk or short tube/train from city centre. Ticket gates open 90 minutes before kickoff; arrive 60 minutes early to clear security at high-demand fixtures.
